Working and Living in New Zealand

Are spouse's/partners able to work if they go out as dependants?

If you travel on a work permit, the work permit is extended to your partner. Must be married or a couple must prove you have been in a relationship for more than 2/3 years. Look at www.immigration.govt.nz. It gives more information on how long a couple have to be together etc.

Do they have to pay for their children's education while on a work permit/work visa? If yes, is it expensive?

Yes, must pay school fees, from NZ$80 - NZ$8,000. Totally depends on school!!!

Will the hospitals make any contribution towards relocation costs, assist in providing temporary accommodation, etc?

Only if high need area for the hospital.

Can you give us an indication of the salary that will be on offer range)?

NZ$30-36,000 plus $10,000 for shift work, starting with Grads at NZ$30,000, 5 years plus would be on NZ$35,000 NZ$50,000 Clinical Nurse Educators / Advisors.

What percentage will be taken in tax?

  • Under NZ$33,000 - 19.5%
  • NZ$33-60,000 is 33%
  • Over NZ$60 is 39%

Would it be relatively easy for husband's/partners to obtain work in New Zealand? Are there plenty of work opportunities?

Depend on skills .. professional person, usually OK. Trade, very easy. IT Professional High End ... not as many opportunities

www.workingin-newzealand.com/employer/10870E79 & the already mentioned websites.

Would it be possible to provide job descriptions for the positions they are currently trying to fill?

Yes. Contact CCM.

Are there opportunities for promotion or would they consider offering a senior position to a nurse traveling from Ireland/UK if we got a CV from a Senior Nurse or is it only Staff Nurse positions they are prepared to offer?

Would definitely consider providing a senior nurse position to a nurse from overseas & have done already.

Would they have any opportunities in primary care/community based positions?

Yes.

In what area of Psychiatry are the openings (is it acute/forensic/community/geriatric)?
