a) What exams must I carry out in order to work there?
All applicants must pass the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination (CRNE)
Purpose of the CRNE
Each Canadian provincial and territorial regulatory authority for nurses is responsible for ensuring that all entry-level registered nurses within its jurisdiction meet an acceptable level of competence before they begin to practise. This level of competence is measured partly by the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination administered by all provincial and territorial regulatory authorities, except in Québec. This ensures a common standard that all nurses practising in these jurisdictions must meet.
Examination Length and Format
The RN Exam consists of 240-260 multiple-choice questions.
Item Presentation
Approximately half of the questions on the RN Exam are presented in a case-based format; i.e., a group of approximately five questions that are associated with a brief introductory text. The remainder of the exam consists of independent questions, which are stand-alone questions not directly associated with the cases or other questions on the exam.
b) Registration
All registered professional nurses can apply to be included on the Canadian register of nurses. As long as you meet the requirements and are registered with the appropriate registration Authority in your own country, there should be no reason why you cannot register in Canada.
See links below for the Canadian Nursing Board.
You are required to have a Canadian Employment Authorization before being allowed entry and employment in Canada. Sponsorship may be required in some cases.
