Visa Issues

Are spouse's/partners able to work if they go out as dependants?

If you travel on a work permit, the work permit is extended to your partner. Must be married or a couple must prove you have been in a relationship for more than 2/3 years. Look at www.immigration.govt.nz. It gives more information on how long a couple have to be together etc.

Do they have to pay for their children's education while on a work permit/work visa? If yes, is it expensive?

Yes, must pay school fees, from NZ$80 - NZ$8,000. Totally depends on school!!!

Do you know the visa classification which will be utilised?

They don't have different classes of visas, just work permits. Cannot swap jobs, if you do you will need another work permit ....

Can you become permanent residents and when are you eligible to apply for permanent residency?

Can apply from day 1, can apply from UK, do not need to be in the country. They have what is known as a "work to residency visa" (can apply when working in the country, allocated more points as already working in the country) .. you may have it for 2 years BUT will have residency at the end if pass all the criteria.

What if I would like to proceed with applying for a position in New Zealand?

Just e-mail your CV to Geraldine McTigue at gmctigue@iolfree.ieiolfree.ie@iolfree.ie or Breda Gallagher at breda.gallagher@btconnect.com

When they offer a position to a nurse, do they then have to apply for a work permit as in Australia? If yes, how long does it take to obtain the work permit/work visa?

A couple of days to a couple of weeks, depends on yourself ... willing to go to NZ House in London with paperwork, may obtain on the spot, if post, obviously it takes longer.
