Are there many differences between Nursing in Australia compared to the UK/Ireland?
Nursing in Australia is very similar however there are slight differences. There are very few enrolled nurses or auxiliary nursing positions in Australia with most positions going to registered nurses. Posts are graded according to experience. For example, the grading of an RN increases each year, from grade 1 to grade 8. The grading also indicates level of pay.
How do I apply for Visas and work permits?
CCM will advise the nurse on applying for their working visa. The candidate will need to contact the DIMIA to obtain relevant forms and follow progress independently. www.dimia.com
How do I register?
In order to work in Australia, a nurse must be registered in the relevant state. Nurses applying for a working holiday visa are not required to have an assessment by the ANCI. Nurses who hold working visas or temporary residency visas should apply/register directly to the relevant State Nursing Board prior to departure to Australia. A mutual recognition system exists whereby you can gain immediate registration in all states of Australia once you are registered in one state.
Can I bring my family?
The Visa Sponsorship Program allows you to bring your spouse/partner and children with you. Your spouse/partner is also able to work on this visa. If you are not married and you are planning to bring your partner you need to provide evidence that you are living together for the last twelve months.
