Are there plenty of jobs for nurses?
Nurses are currently in high demand in Australia. There are excellent career opportunities whether you want to emigrate to Australia, or just stay for a few years. Whether you have a high level of skills and experience or need to gain additional skills, there is a visa to suit you.
Most visa applications for nurses receive priority processing. In Australia, to work as a nurse you need to be in good health and have a certain level of education and experience. To determine whether you can work in Australia as a nurse, you will need to be assessed by either the Australian Nursing Council (ANC) or the nurse regulatory body in the State or Territory in which you wish to work. The ANC's website has more information including links to State and Territory nurse regulatory bodies.
See: ANC website www.anc.org.au
How much nursing experience would I be required to have to get sponsorship and would this have to be in any particular speciality?
This will depend on the requirements of the hosptials reviewing your CV. Some hospitals look for more than 2 years experience and others require less. The individual hospitals will assess your CV and let us know if they require any particular skills.
What is the average pay for a nurse with 2 years experience?
Wages and employment conditions are governed by various awards and agreements. These vary between states and territories and the particular sector(e.g public, private, aged care) and in some cases the particular workplace. Please see the Australian Nursing Federation website for details on Nurses salaries in the different states www.anf.org.au.
If planning to move to Australia when would be the best time to start applying for visas etc?
CCM usually advise candidates to submit their CV at least 6 months prior to their availability.
How does relocation allowance work and what does it provide?
It only applies if the individual hospital making you an offer chooses to include this, unfortunately not all hospital will offer this.
My plans are for my partner and I to work in Australia for a couple of years and then apply for citizenship/residency, which would be the best visa for me to apply for?
This is very much an individual choice but you can view all visa types on the following website www.immi.gov.au. CCM mobilise a large number of candidates on work sponsorship visas (E 457 visa) if they are not already in the process for a visa type prior to contacting us.
We are considering a trip to Australia later this year, are there any opportunities or suggestions that you have that may be beneficial for my future plans?
This is a good opportunity to meet with some hospitals. CCM can send your CV for review to some of our hospitals prior to your travels and perhaps some of these hospitals may be interested in making arrangements to meet with you when you are in Australia.
How do I Open A Bank Account?

Yes. Your spouse/partner and family members can travel with you and there is no restriction on your spouse or partners right to work or attend full time education.

You will need to check with the Immigration authorities regarding this. www.immi.gov.au or the individual government website for each state e.g for Queensland it is www.qld.gov.au.

The cut off age for applying for permanent residency from the UK or Ireland is 45, however, it is still possible to travel out on a 457 sponsorship visa which is renewable up to four years.
