How to go about getting there / Planning Ahead?

Registration

When you want to work in a different country, it is very important to plan ahead and not leave everything until the last minute.  This certainly applies when thinking about working in Australia.  You need to allow 6 – 9 months for registration.  9 months if you are bad with paperwork!  The actual registration process is quite straight forward and is just a matter of collating documentation and forwarding to AHPRA.  The one area that seems to cause the most confusion is whether you need to complete the English test or not.  Please read further for an easy explanation.  CCM do not get involved with Registration, but are happy to answer a query for you if you do get confused about something.

REGISTRATION COMPLETE…. WHAT NEXT?

Now as keen as you probably are to get on a plane and start travelling, we must strongly advise you of the following:

Delays can occur with registration so it is always best to have your registration completed before you book your flight.  You will not be able to work as a RN without your registration and will end up having to work elsewhere.  It is important early on in your career to get strong, acute experience and the longer you have to work outside the nursing profession, the more difficult it will be afterwards trying to obtain nursing work.
