Temple Street is the first place for tens of thousands of children every year suffering from every kind of illness and injury imaginable. Temple Street’s aim is to help sick children by making their stay in hospital less upsetting for them and their families, by funding the purchase of medical equipment, developing new services, funding research and developing new treatment facilities. Temple Street Children’s University Hospital is one of the major paediatric hospitals catering for children from all over the country. As a teaching hospital, it is one of the leading educators of paediatric nurses in Ireland and provides medical training for doctors at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Annually, there are over 125,000 attendances by children from every part of Ireland and the hospital has the country’s biggest paediatric casualty unit with over 50,000 attending Accident and Emergency. (www.templestreet.ie)
And now one of CCM’s own has taken up the challenge to raise funds for this worthy cause. Breda our Recruitment Manager in Healthcare is set to take part in the Alcatraz challenge as part of a relay team.
On July 22nd Breda Lanigan will run 7 miles over the Golden Gate Bridge to help raise funds which will help purchase vital life-saving equipment for over 130,000 babies and children who are cared for at Temple Street. Each year supplementary funding programmes help Temple Street provide the best possible treatment for their young patients.
It was once believed that it was impossible to escape the prison island of Alcatraz. Not only is it possible, but brave swimmers for the last 20 years have been doing just that for charity. The challenge begins with a 1.5 mile swim. For the not so strong swimmers the challenge can be done as a relay race; one braves the cold tidal waters of the Pacific Ocean; the other running 7 miles over the Golden Gate Bridge. This is truly a unique fundraising challenge to raise vital funds for Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
Temple Street continues to rely on external support to assist it in the purchase of vital equipment and to help establish and fund research to ensure that the best service possible is provided to the children in its care. (www.templestreet.ie)
