How do I get there?
Travel arrangements are fully paid for and organised by the relevant authority at start of contract. Airlines include British European and Aurigny Airlines.
How much is accommodation?
Accommodation is provided for single qualified nurses who do not hold residential qualifications. This consists of the nurses home and the Board of Health also has a number of outside house and single unit flats at higher rents than the nurses home. Housing licences can be obtained for a limited number of staff for fixed periods.
In the Nurses home, rent begins at £80 per month and is deducted from pay. Slightly higher rates apply to external units of accommodation.
What is the rate of Tax?
The standard income tax rate is 20%. Personal allowances are favourable in comparison with the UK. These are greater than £7000 for a single person and over £14000 for a married couple. Social insurance is calculated at 4.5% of pay according to minimum and maximum pay levels. Full time staff on a fixed term contract of one year or less may choose not to contribute to the pension scheme. Full time permanent staff over the age of 18 must join the Employees Pension Scheme.
Banking?
All banks require ID in the form of a passport or driving licence to open an account. Those transferring from banks abroad will need to provide a letter from their original bank confirming that they have been banking there and stating their home address.
Rates of pay?
Local allowances are available to all full-time nursing staff, who will receive a lump sum payment of £3000 upon completion of 2 years service. A further retention payment of £607 for staff who have been in their posts for 12 months (pro-rata for staff who have been in their posts for less than 12 months). This payment will be made annually and the rate will rise by the same the percentage as basic Whitley rates.
