Right of Abode
If you have parents or grandparents born the Channel Islands, you will be able to obtain a right of abode or entry visa. This will allow you to work the Channel Islands without hospital sponsorship. These visas can be obtained from the Board of Health. You will be required to provide the birth certificates for yourself and your parents/grandparents who were born in the Channel Islands.
Work Permit
If you do not have entitlement or ancestry you can obtain a work permit. This visa requires sponsorship from the employer (ie The Board of Health) Once you have a confirmed position and have gained your registration, your employer will arrange your work permit through the Board of Health. Although Work Permits are not always issued, nursing is recognized as an area of shortage and employers are often willing to sponsor.
Police Clearance
It is necessary to obtain a Police Clearance Report from the country in which you have been living for the last five years. The hospitals will issue a letter requesting this information for you and ask for a check to be carried out in your name.
Medical Requirements
An Occupational Health form is given to the prospective employee to be filled out and is forwarded to the Occupational Health Department for their perusal, upon which, the decision is made to proceed with employment.
