The King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre Riyadh has been a pioneer in kidney and bone marrow transplantation, oncology, in vitro fertilisation (IVF), and orthopaedic and cardiovascular surgery. The hospital performs over 2,000 open-hearts and 6,500 cardiac catheterizations per year. It offers chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and bone marrow transplant. Paediatric oncology/haematology patients are treated at a 40 bed, state-of-the-art facility, the King Fahad National Centre for Children’s Cancer and Research that opened in 1997. In 2014, the hospital earned Magnet status through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
The King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre Jeddah was originally built as a private hospital in the 1990s; however, it was bought by the Saudi government, and began offering services in March 2000. The King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre Jeddah offers 24-hour emergency care, short stay surgery, ophthalmology, dentistry, neurosciences, medical oncology, and cardiovascular services. The King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre Jeddah holds Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCI) status. Also, in 2013, The King Faisal Specialist hospital & Research Centre Jeddah earned Magnet status through the ANCC.
The King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre Jeddah is undergoing a substantial expansion in the next two years, with a new medical city located north of Jeddah, near the airport. Phase one of the new hospital will open in late 2018 or early 2019; with over 1,000 beds including 152 ICU beds and 30 operating rooms. The new complex will also include brand new housing for staff.
