Job Overview:

CCM Recruitment are currently seeking suitable candidates for a Director of Nursing role.  The primary role of the Director of Nursing will be one of clinical and professional leadership in the day-to-day operations of The Nursing Home. This includes ensuring the effective management of clinical care and support services provided within The Nursing Home.

Job Summary: Primary Duties:

  • Ensure that the provision of a high standard of care to the resident and families in The Nursing Home is consistent with the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of The Nursing Home.
  • Encourage recognition of the resident as an individual, ensuring resident’s needs and comfort are given priority. Facilitate residents to provide feedback and information about care and services they receive.
  • Oversee the delivery of resident care together with all members of the multidisciplinary teams.
  • Communicate with relevant teams regarding on-going development of The Nursing Home operations.
  • Communicates with residents, relatives and visitors on an on-going basis. Liaise with families regularly to ensure they are aware of mechanisms to communicate with The Nursing Home.
  • Attend / chair meetings as required and keep staff briefed on developments in The Nursing Home.
  • Liaise with HIQA and other external bodies as required.
  • Provide leadership and guidance at all times, particularly at times of emergency.
  • Create and promote open communications, healthy working relationships, and stimulate initiative among the team.
  • Be aware of the confidential nature of the work and in particular, the right of residents to confidentiality. To this end you will not discuss workings of The Nursing Home or its residents with people outside The Nursing Home.
  • Organise and complete the Staff Roster.
  • Undertake the role and responsibilities of the Person-in-Charge in line with the Health Act 2007, related regulations and the Health information and Quality Authority (HIQA) standards.
  • Oversee the organisation and management of The Nursing Home.
  • Oversee and co-ordinate the quality and safety system including all aspects of risk management and resident involvement.

  • Participate with the orientation of all new staff to The Nursing Home.
  • Undertake counselling and appraisal of trained staff as required.
  • Endeavour to keep abreast of recent trends and developments.
  • Be responsible for the recruitment, development and supervision of staff.
  • Facilitate the arrangements necessary and participate where appropriate, in education and training of other staff as the need arises
  • Be responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with external organisations in order to promote and maintain good working relationships and high standards of care and service for residents.
  • Lead, by example, a professional, punctual and dedicated team.
  • Create and promote open communications, healthy working relationships, and stimulate initiative among the team.
  • Motivate team members, by agreeing goals and objectives, through performance review.
  • To undertake such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Registered Provider.
  • Attend training courses both in-house and at other locations to meet and enhance the service being provided by The Nursing Home.
  • Maintain high personal hygiene standards.

Educational/Professional Qualifications

  • A registered General Nurse on the Register of Nurses held by An Board Altranais or be entitled to be so registered
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Management qualification (QQI level 6 or above).
  • Post Graduate diploma in gerontology (Desirable)
  • Minimum three years post graduate experience in gerontology with a minimum of two years experience in Care of the Older Person at CNM level
  • The Person in Charge shall have a minimum of 3 years in a management or supervisory role in the area of Health or Social Care and an appropriate qualification in Health or Social Care Management at an appropriate level.
