Job Overview: Our client is seeking  a Nurse Manager, ICU to join their team. This position is responsible for establishing the clinical direction for nursing care delivery, providing clinical supervision and ensuring the quality of patient care and outcomes for the department.  This position is also responsible for financial planning/budgeting, human resources/staffing and clinical practices within assigned unit.

Job Summary: Primary Duties:

  • Provides leadership, and coordination for any circumstances requiring immediate response, resolution or referral during regular rounding on assigned Nursing unit or department
  • Coordinates department operations with other departments/disciplines to provide effective and efficient patient care
  • Facilitates optimum patient flow in unit or department through coordination between unit leadership staff, bed management and staffing office
  • Demonstrates growth and development in clinical and management skills through an ongoing process of education consultation and pertinent literature
  • Maintains clinical and managerial competencies
  • Serves as a clinical resource and coach to all Nursing staff with particular emphasis on new staff members
  • Ensures the practice of professional nursing and manages the delivery of care
  • Facilitates the incorporation of patient safety and Magnet principles into clinical nursing care
  • Coordinates and evaluates patient care through unit and patient rounding, and patient/ family related conferences as needed
  • Serves as a clinical resource and mentor
  • Facilitates resource coordination to meet the unique needs of patients/family members; such as translators
  • Monitors key performance indicators, including quality, patient safety, financial, operational and patient/family satisfaction
  • Supports risk management activities
  • Performs or monitors personnel management functions, which includes interviewing and selecting candidates, directing the performance management program and managing corrective action issues
  • Develops, monitors and administers department operating and capital budgets
  • Defines and evaluates employee performance through performance appraisals
  • Monitors and resolves customer service issues and provides feedback regarding satisfaction results to Nursing Leadership, staff and /or other involved individuals in a positive and timely manner
  • Facilitates immediate communication to nursing unit or department for particular problems, e.g. emergency product recall, communication systems outage
  • Provides leadership and other support in crisis intervention activities, including internal and external emergencies, physical crisis intervention and disaster triage
  • Participates in peer review process to evaluate performance of other nurse managers
  • Directs the department’s participation in the evaluation of new products, performance initiatives and/or practices
  • Contributes to Hospital, nursing and department policies and procedures
  • Participates in clinical nursing research and supports Hospital research initiatives
  • Participates in educational sessions for Hospital on the Magnet recognition program

Educational/Professional Qualifications
  • Minimum of six (6) years clinical experience in an appropriate and relevant healthcare setting post qualification is required
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a Senior Charge Nurse (S.C.N.) position, or minimum of three (3) years in a Charge Nurse position is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification (minimum three (3) year curriculum) from an accredited program is required
  • Valid and current national license is required
  • BLS is required
  • International accreditation experience is preferred
  • Indication of progressive leadership, management and clinical positions is preferred
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in specialty area being managed
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, counselling, problem-solving, decision-making and conflict resolution
  • Managerial and/or supervisory experience is required
